For example, sleep deprivation can negatively affect your immune system.<\/p>\n<h3>Research also suggests that sleep deprivation may lead to:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Weight gain<\/li>\n<li>High blood pressure<\/li>\n<li>Cancer<\/li>\n<li>Heart disease<\/li>\n<li>Stroke<\/li>\n<li>Diabetes<\/li>\n<li>Bone loss<\/li>\n<li>Depression<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Sleep deprivation also can impair:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Learning<\/li>\n<li>Memory<\/li>\n<li>Alertness<\/li>\n<li>Concentration<\/li>\n<li>Judgment<\/li>\n<li>Problem solving<\/li>\n<li>Reasoning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But these are only a few of the health issues sleep deprivation creates. According to Eve Van Cauter of the University of Chicago, a \u201clack of sleep disrupts every physiologic function in the body.\u201d To make matters worse, lack of sleep hinders your ability to realize your own performance is impaired, making you think you\u2019re functioning well when you probably aren\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>So now we know that sleep is necessary, but it\u2019s up to each of us to make sure we get enough rest.
